The Clog

This started as a blog about living abroad for 7 months, but the reality of getting a job has me talking about other topics while in between countries. (Above photo taken on return trip from Mexico, 2008. Looks like castles in the sky.)

NKOTB

not much news here. we went to the beach yesterday and today. it was a bit windy but there were TONS of surfers! here, four and five occupy one wave. the swell was about 15 feet, and we counted over 40 surfers in the water.

i am learning some new things about brazil:

the men here don~t beat their women. they go to jail if they do.
they also don~t cheat on their women. i was told by a brazilian woman 8 years ago the contrary and have believed it until now.

they don~t have change. i guess the banks have change seasonally, so where ever you go, you always have to provide change. they look at you like you just smacked them if you don~t have change. this confuses me. if i give a vendor change, he has it. doesn~t it reciprocate? or does it just fall into a black hole?

apparently, here in praia do rosa, during high season, landlords kick people out of their homes. literally, their stuff is on the front porch. so i will need to work out a lease, also to make sure my rent is not raised during high season.

i was happy to be told i~m not a tourist. i live here now. people recognize me when i go out, and i recognize them, but i still feel like a new kid on the block.
